Low Self-Esteem / Confidence

Self- esteem is how we feel about ourselves, how we see ourselves and how much we value and like our appearance and ourselves. It is our opinion of ourselves, which is shaped in our early years by, for example, our parents or carers and teachers.

Their influence, if it’s positive, can help programme us to feel good about ourselves. Alternatively, if it’s negative, it will cause us to feel unhappy about ourselves, resulting in low self-esteem.

Negative life influences, such as lack of encouragement and compliments by parents, teachers, friends and siblings can cause us to feel a lack of confidence and insignificant. For example, being bullied or constantly put down may have a negative effect on our self-esteem, causing us to question our abilities.

We then grow up with these beliefs, they become ingrained in our brain and can be difficult to change. Having low self-esteem can have a massive impact on our lives, holding us back from so many things we would like to do, causing us to feel unhappy, insecure and doubt our abilities with self-sabotaging thoughts.

Low Confidence/Low Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem can also affect us after certain life experiences and will differ from person to person. Some influencing factors are:

  • Losing a job
  • Divorce
  • Difficult relationships
  • Illness
  • Being bullied

The good news is hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool in combatting this issue. As these thoughts are deep in our subconscious, it’s difficult to use willpower alone to change these thoughts.

Whilst in a state of deep relaxation, I use positive suggestion and visualisation techniques. I will be talking to the subconscious mind to change these negative thoughts to more positive thoughts and beliefs. I will work with you to build up your self-confidence and give you small achievable goals to set yourself, empowering you to have the confidence to achieve success. As low self-esteem is a learnt behaviour, we can unlearn these behaviours and create far newer, acceptable behaviours.
